A Dream is Fulfilled

Mission

To encourage everyone to have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ.

Our Heritage. . .

The opportunity of serving others by increasing the effectiveness of Christians was the beginning of Daybreak Camp. Being within an hours drive from the busy Silicon Valley and offering advantages of year round use, its value was increased over a remote camps in the Sierras. Many area congregations of the Church of Christ were contacted, a savings account for the camp was opened, and interested people/families were asked to begin donating towards the dream of a camp.

In 1969 Lee Zumwalt discovered the Rohn Oak Camp, located in Felton, CA, about one-fourth mile from the center of town. The stately redwoods, rolling hills that change from summers beautiful golden brown to winters gorgeous green were a kind of quiet wholesomeness that the founding fathers were seeking. Being just 6 miles from the Pacific Ocean, many people were excited to begin the path towards offering Christ centered camps to area children and youth.

The area Christians demonstrated Christian People Power! On August 9, 1969 possession of the camp was secured when the owners amended the escrow agreement by accepting a down payment schedule that was possible for the new corporation. Daybreak Camp was incorporated in April, 1970 as a non-profit corporation. Daybreak would provide a place away from the hustle and bustle of busy cities. And, a place to discover and renew relationships with Jesus, the truths in Scripture, and how we can apply His statues to our daily lives.

Daybreak, emphasizing ministries to youth, families, and area congregations for over 38 years, seeks to boldly proclaim Jesus as Lord and Savior. Bible teaching through various camp activities reinforces Gods Word.

Land Acquisition 2000. . .

The San Lorenzo Valley s peaceful mountain retreat of Daybreak was being faced with another challenge. We wanted to purchase the adjacent property so as to keep it in its natural setting, while others wanted to build sports activites or a strip mall on the approximately 140 acres directly to the south of the original property.

In 2000 that property which was owned by the Ley Family was set for sale. The race began. Many people were praying with the Board of Directors to acquire the land. Learning that the land was for sale and hearing that there was already a cash offer for the property, we were not discouraged. There were numerous delays and seemingly setbacks, but with prayers and support of faithful Christians, Daybreak purchased the land on Sept. 19, 2000. By participating in the process to purchase the land, all of us experienced patience and understand how to wait upon the Lords timing. What a generous and graceful God we serve!
